Queen Introduction Support
We stand behind the quality of our queens and want your introduction to be successful. If you experience concerns during the first few days of introduction, contact us immediately so we can help troubleshoot and determine the best solution.
Proper installation and introduction procedures must be followed.
Queen Cage Options & Release
Queen cages are prepared with either a corked release end or a candy release plug based on your preference.
Corked Release
-
Leave cork in place for approximately 3 days
-
After colony acclimation, remove cork and insert a marshmallow to allow gradual release
Candy Release Plug
-
Worker bees will chew through the candy to release the queen naturally
-
Check after 3–4 days to confirm she has been released
We are happy to prepare the cage to your preferred release method and can mark your queen upon request.
Important Installation Tips
✔ Ensure the colony has been queenless for at least 24 hours before introducing a new queen when re-queening or splitting.
✔ Do not leave the queen without attendant bees.
✔ Do not use a marshmallow on day one — rapid release can lead to rejection. Colonies need time to adjust to the queen’s pheromones.
Why Re-Queen?
Re-queening can:
-
Improve brood production
-
Increase colony temperament and productivity
-
Strengthen hive genetics
-
Restore failing colonies
